RCS is the culmination of many years of prayer and meditation from Pastor Andrés Reyes and his wife Mandie Reyes over the Bible’s instruction concerning the role of the Church in education. When the state of Iowa made Education Savings Accounts (ESA) available for the school year of 2023-2024, Pastor Reyes considered the option of uniting with a Christian school for providing a satellite campus. The Lord did not open that door for ministry.
July 10, 2024 marked the first major step toward materializing a Christian school at First Baptist Church located in Perry, IA. Logan Shine, President of Shine Strategies connected with Pastor Reyes in an effort to contact pastors who were interested in providing Christian education for their communities. Following an initial meeting with Dr. Shine, Pastor Reyes and Mandie attended a community event for a Christian school.
Pastor Reyes then utilized the professional survey services of Inspired Life by conducting a community survey in Perry, IA focused on a fifteen minute radius from the First Baptist Church to ascertain the level of interest the community had in a new Christian school. Dr. Shine once again played a major role in facilitating the survey through a $100.00 donation for the survey. After three weeks the compelling results were that seventeen families representing at least 53 students voiced serious interest in sending their children to a Christian school. Six families showed interest in helping to establish a Christian school. Four of those families are from First Baptist Church.
Following a meeting to review the survey results with Rebecca Johnson, Pastor Reyes and Dr. Shine sent out invitations for a community event to discuss the establishment of Redeemer Christian School with those who showed interest. An initial Board of four men from First Baptist Church was assembled. Pastor Reyes then connected with Josh Bowar from the Iowa Association of Christian Schools (IACS) to begin moving toward Provisional Accreditation for Redeemer Christian School. Pastor Reyes and Mandie’s initial investment was $4,500.00 Pastor Reyes then began the first of five modules led by IACS.
By January of 2025, RCS had received provisional accreditation through Christian Schools International. The Board of Directors had been assemble from the membership at First Baptist Church. The curriculum was been decided.
RCS’s inaugural year begins on September 2, 2025. Five students are currently enrolled. And Ethan Thomas Winey has been enlisted to serve as an RCS faculty member.
RCS is committed to the Christian perspective of life as set forth only in the Bible, acknowledging the following aspects of the Christian faith:
First, that God is incorporeal, intellectual, social, and spiritual being and is the sovereign creator and sustainer of the universe.
Second, that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and extends salvation to all who place their faith in Him. As an extension of the spiritual education of the home, the school endeavors to aid each student’s understanding of God and man to assist the student in growing in Christian maturity and utilizing the individual’s unique potential in Christ to the fullest.
From these premises stem four goals:
For the Spiritual Growth of the students, the school aims:
For the Intellectual Growth of the students, the school aims:
For the Social Growth of the students, the school aims:
For the Physical Development of the students, the school aims:
Bible: The Bible, as the only written word of God, is the truth by which the Holy Spirit enlightens our understanding of God, ourselves, and the world. It is the infallible authority by which He directs and governs all our activities, including the education of our children.
God: There is one infinite, holy, loving, personal God who speaks to believers in Scripture and reveals Himself in His acts of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration, as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As finite human beings created in God’s image, we declare that it is our purpose and privilege to worship, honor, serve, and obey Him.
Life: Human life is a gift of God. God created mankind to live their lives in total commitment to Him. He demands us to educate our children to that end.
Creation: The creation, preservation, and ultimate restoration of the world is the work of the triune God. We can only rightly understand the world when it is studied in the relationship of God for the purpose of glorifying His name.
Mankind: Mankind was created in the image of God to enjoy fellowship with their Creator. Mankind is to reflect in their person and works, the excellence of their Maker. Mankind is instructed to exercise dominion over the world in loving obedience to God and interpret all reality in accordance with His design and will.
Sin: Sin is the disobedience to God’s will. Mankind, by sinning, estranged themselves from God and their neighbor, and brought God’s curse upon the creation. As a result, mankind has become corrupt in heart and blind to the true meaning of life. They repress and misuse the knowledge of God, which confronts them in creation and Scripture.
Christ: Jesus Christ, our living Lord, of whom the Scriptures speak, has reconciled the world to God and redeemed our lives in their entirety. Until His return, our lives should express themselves in constant gratitude to Him in Christian service for His redeeming and reconciling work.
Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit renews our hearts to love God and our neighbors. He directs our understanding to rightly know our God, ourselves, and our world. The Holy Spirit guides us into a personal relationship to Jesus Christ.
Redemption: As He promised, God, in love, sent Jesus Christ into the world to save it from sin and its consequences. The atoning death of the Son of God is the only payment for the debt of human sin, and Christ’s resurrection is the only liberation from the powers of evil and death. The victorious Lord sends the Holy Spirit to create faith, cleanse and renew hearts, and build a community of love and holiness. It is this community’s mission to proclaim and live this good news and to make disciples of nations.
Purpose of Education: The purposes of Christian education are to direct our understanding, wisdom, knowledge, and righteousness in order to perform competent and responsible service to God in the home, church, and society. To encourage each child into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and make Him Lord of his/her life.
Parents: God gives parents the responsibility to nurture and train their children. Christian parents may choose to share this responsibility with institutions able to carry forward their God-given task.
The Child: The child, entrusted by God to the parents, needs ordering, correcting, and instructing. Children of Christian homes share in the Gospel and are, therefore, entitled to study the Word and deal with life’s issues and problems from a Christian perspective.
Educational Freedom: Christian schools, organized and administered in accordance with legitimate standards and provisions for schools, should be fully recognized in society as free to function according to these principles.
Sexuality: God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary sexes together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person and is against Christian belief and practice.
Gender: We believe that God created us male and female in His image; that gender identity may not be detached from the biological sex of the human body; that marriage or matrimony is a covenantal, procreative union of one man and one woman; and that God intends for children to be raised and nurtured in an environment that honors these distinctions. We believe that sexual union is to be exclusive to covenantal, heterosexual marriage.
Marriage: The term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union. God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. Any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, cohabitation, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, or use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God.
The Apostles’ Creed: “I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried. He descended into Hades. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.” “I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.”
